Cannot change my default email account

Hello.

Mail app is crashing since about 2 years ago.

I would like to define a different email account as the default (E.G. if I click the icon "Email" in a contact), but as Apple instructions I need to open the mail app and go to the preferences there.

So I'm cought in a loop, in order to change the default mail app I need to open Mail, but... it won't open.

 

Anyone knows of a workaround?

Any help much appreciated.
