Please help!

So i got a new phone (SE) and i took the sim card out of my old phone (5) and for some reason, i couldn't use iMessage for my number, just my email. I tried turning iMessage on and off, reset network settings, NOTHING has worked. I can't add my number to my iCloud cause it needs to verify it and i don't have access to my number. I even tried putting the sim card in my old phone but all it shows in messages is my email and my number but its gray and has a loading icon. please help
