How can I sync my Mac and MacBookPro?

I got a new MacBook Pro earlier this year and was going to sell my Mac desktop. After NOT selling it, and a change in my circumstances, I decided to take it out of mothballs and use it in my new apartment.

How can I keep the two in sync? I know the thing is to use the cloud for apps as much as possible, but I want them to be the same until I have the time to get cloud-based with my apps, docs, etc.
