Problem adding devices to DEP via Apple Configu...

Hi guys,

so i'm having problems adding existing devices to DEP via the new Apple Configurator 2.5. I've set up my organisation and logged into the DEP account. then i've added my MDM Server, in my case a 5.4 macServer running Profile Manager.

When i plug in an ipad and start the preparation process it will show up in my DEP account (under the newly created server named "added by apple configurator"), however the procress won't finish without a strange error message. several times apple configurator tries to load some kind of cloud config, then it says

"configurator could not load cloud-configuration and apply it to "iPad" since there was a network error. please make sure you device is connected to the internet."

note that my error message is german so it might be a bit different. i have provided a wifi config during the preparation, changed it several times but no success. i have been able to add some devices via this method before, but i have no idea why it doesn't work anymore. the preparation process can only be stopped and the ipad is not supervised, nor the remote management dialouge comes up. do i have to assign the device to the mdm server in my DEP account? or leave them assigned to the "added by apple configurator" server? i'm running out of ideas...
