Welcome to the world! Your mom and I are soexcited to see who you will become.

When your sister was born, we wrote aletter about the world we hoped she and now you will grow up in — a world withbetter education, fewer diseases, stronger communities, and greater equality.We wrote that with all the advances in science and technology, your generationshould live dramatically better lives than ours, and we have a responsibilityto do our part to make that happen. Even though headlines often focus on what swrong, we still believe these positive trends will win out. We re optimistsabout your generation and the future.

當你的姐姐出生的時候，我們曾經寫過一封信，描述了我們希望她成長的環境，現在對你，也是一樣的。我們希望你們成長的這個世界，有更好的教育、更少的疾病、更繁榮的社會、以及人和人更為平等。我們同時也寫道，隨著科技的進步，你們這一代人將比我們有更好的生活，而我們將肩負實現這個願景的使命。雖然現在媒體還在關注一些世界上的負麵問題，我們仍然相信，正能量的東西將會勝出。我們對你們這一代，以及對未來，是非常樂觀的。

But rather than write about growing up, wewant to talk about childhood. The world can be a serious place. That s why it simportant to make time to go outside and play.

You will be busy when you re older, so Ihope you take time to smell all the flowers and put all the leaves you want inyour bucket now. I hope you read your favorite Dr. Seuss books so many timesyou start inventing your own stories about the Vipper of Vipp. I hope you ridethe carousel with Max until you ve tamed every color horse. I hope you run asmany laps around our living room and yard as you want. And then I hope you takea lot of naps. I hope you re a great sleeper. And I hope even in your dreamsyou can feel how much we love you.

當你長大了，你會很忙，所以我希望現在的你，要多聞聞花香，把你喜歡的樹葉子收集到小桶裏。我希望你能盡情地閱讀蘇斯博士的書，然後自己創作關於Vipper和Vipp的故事。我希望你能和Max(大女兒)一起騎旋轉木馬，直到騎遍每一隻彩色的小馬。我希望你盡情地在家裏的客廳和院子裏瘋跑，想跑幾圈就跑幾圈。然後，我還希望你能多多地睡覺，睡得安穩。我希望在你的每一個夢裏，都能感受到爸媽對你的愛。

Childhood is magical. You only get to be achild once, so don t spend it worrying too much about the future. You ve got usfor that, and we ll do everything we possibly can to make sure the world is abetter place for you and all children in your generation.

一個人的童年是很奇妙的，你隻有一次當小孩的機會，所以，不要太擔心你的未來，有我們呢!我們會為了你和其他的孩子，竭盡所能，改變這個世界。

August, we love you so much and we re soexcited to go on this adventure with you. We wish you a life of joy, love andthe same hope you give us.
