Old apple id was used to restore my iPhone

Hello, I am stuck in an issue that is very exasperating.

Here are the steps I followed.

My wife was using an old iPhone 5. We got it replaced at apple store with another iPhone 5 and while restoring the iPhone, an old backup was used inadvertently. Unfortunately the old backup was using an old apple id that we do not have access to. Now, we are trying to reset the iPhone to factory settings. It is not being allowed as it is requesting password for the old apple id. We do not have the password.

Any help is resolving this is greatly appreciated.
