Macbook Air will not boot at all

I have a few years old Macbook Air. My son got a 3D printer, and connected it to the Macbook via USB. Weirdly, the laptop shut off and now I can't turn it on at all - it acts like it's completely dead, so sign of booting whatsoever (no longer connected to the printer of course). Any suggestions for how to wake it up, or get access to the disk inside (via Target mode perhaps) - I can't imagine a USB device can physically kill the machine? How to figure out what's up with it?
