What do I do with a found iPad?

My mother works at a hotel at the front desk and an unknown guest left their iPad at the hotel (5-6 months ago). The Hotel said she could take it home since no one has called or claimed the item within the 6 months, but it's iCloud lock. So essential it's a paper weight. Is there a way I can use this  iPad or will it stay a paper weight?

There is nothing you can do. As it's not been claimed in six months it's probably legal to keep it, but it's of no use whatever to you anyway - there is no way round the Activation Lock. Apple cannot help you.
