Photos not working with iPad

After my recent update to iOS 11 I noticed my photos app was acting funny on my iPad (not my iPhone which was also updated). Yesterday I went to the photo app and items starting shifting and I noticed things were being removed. I'll I'm left with are a few photos that are in my iCloud. All of the photos I had synced from my mac are no longer there. I plugged my ipad into my mac today to check the sync and it is no longer an option in iTunes. Weird. How can I fix this?
