Unable to update IPOD system

I presently am operating my IPOD 6 with IOS 9.3.5 and tried to install a new app. was told need to update to IOS 10 to do so. Tried to in sys update from GENERAL but tells me my pod is up to date. Can I get IOS 10 if so how?

ChrisJ4203-- I am using an Apple IPOD Touch 6, now at IOS 9.3.5. Does this answer help to define whether I can update to IOS 10.
