Back up automatically and

my iPad wouldn’t back up automatically for weeks and then i tried manually and it just got stuck.  I allowed hours and overnight. It was plugged in, connected to WiFi and for automatic was locked.  I made sure I had enough storage, ( I already buy extra) , my WiFi was ok.  I called apple and in the course of 8 days they went through all the same steps.  Then they had me download 11.0 and it still didn’t work.  Next they asked permission to download files so they could check some settings.  We did this.  Now for some reason I can manually back up my iPad.  Why? A fluke? Are Apple engineers remotely changing settings on the iPad? Last night my iPad was erratically paging through an article I was reading.  My hands were away from screen but the pages were scrolling.  What is happening?
