payment method rejected for family member

My family and I set up family sharing, which so far had been working perfectly. Out of the blue, my husband gets a message that the payment method was rejected and to check with me. I can buy things just fine. So can everyone else. I update all info anyway. Still no dice. I kick him out and add him again. Nope. I don't know what else to do.
