Text Docs only open up part way in MacSierra

Ever since I upgraded to Mac Sierra 10.12.6 I'm having problems with text documents.

TextEditPlus -- when using it I have to force quit unless I save the doc or it is a doc that I had previously saved. I had to download another text editor when I just want to print something without saving it. I wrote the designer of the TextEditPlus program and he hasn't found a fix for it yet. (I use TextEditPlus instead of TextEdit because I need to format text in color and last I checked TextEdit won't do it).

Text docs like TextEditPlus, RFTWrite open up a small document (about 3.5 inches high) when I chose file/open, instead of however i saved it last (full length). I work with a 27" monitor. It is very annoying to have to continually increase the length of each document.

Is there a way to fix these problems?
