Macbook freezes unless something is moving on s...

I have a very strange problem with my MacBook. The screen completely freezes unless something is moving on the screen (eg, the mouse moving, or a video playing back). I can use the laptop as long as I have a tiny video playing on the side of the screen. If there is music playing while it freezes you will still continue to hear the music playing. 

The problem started when I had the display replaced. I accidentally broke my display and had it replaced with a refurbished screen from the same model. When I picked my laptop up from the shop they said the hard drive was broken, and that this was causing the problem, so I had the hard drive replaced (twice) but the problem keeps happening. I have tried a clean reinstall, and a time machine restore to see if it's a software issue but nothing helped. 

Does anyone know what the issue is or what else I can try to do?
