Keep losing internet connection
I have a 27 inch iMac that I bought just after they came out. I will be connected to the internet just fine and then all of sudden I lose internet connectivity. I got up and click the airport icon and it doesn't list any networks. If I restart my computer I can connect again for a day or two before this happens again.I have the same problem with my I-mac 21.5 inch. Today I really was on a time constraint and had to switch to my old Windows laptop which worked perfectly (but unfortunately still too late..) This was not what I expected from my I-mac. Did I miss an update or something, why internet is not working continuously anymore?
I have the same exact issue except this happens to me SEVERAL TIMES A DAY!
I know for a fact that the issue is not caused by my router/ISP.
I'd really appreciate if anyone could suggest a solution?
Is this widely reported problem? I too am having issues.
The wireless connection shows full strength on the menu bar, but the actual connection to the internet is lost. The only way I can get the connection back is to turn off Airport and turn it back on, or restart the computer. My iMac is the current 27" release with C2D, and using Airport Extreme+Airport Express as an extension. It is connected using 2.4GHz with both N and G running on it (I also have 5GHZ N only running).
Thanks.
I just setup two identical iMacs and only one is experiencing the same problem as mentioned here. The computer just loses the net connection -- the Airport icon shows an ! and a restart is necessary, though the disconnect happens a plethora of times throughout a single day.
All software updates were applied to both iMacs, yet this 1 iMac has serious issues.
The machines were purchased a week ago.
Is everyone using AT&T as their ISP?
Nope, Comcast cable here. Its definitely something with the iMac itself, as the exact twin is fine.
Note: disregard my machine info -- its not my machine.

Ok Apple Extreme Base Station or Time Capsule for WIFI?
Same thing here, happens about once a day. I have 2 Imacs and 3 printers all on the home wifi here. I also have a 3rd party ping program (Ping Pong) that is set up on both Imacs that pings all 7 devices on the wifi. When the only box that fails (21" Imac), all the other devices and Airport are working perfectly. On the failing box, the menu bar, the signal is zero and 100% grey'ed out.
It is impossible to resurrect the wifi on this Imac. The only, and I mean only way to recover is to reboot. This works and is successful every time.
I am only 4 months old in this new Mac world and wonder if there is a utility application that will "restart communications" without rebooting.
BTW, this problems has been with this Imac since new, 4 month ago.
.... Chili
The office where these two iMacs are setup uses a Airport Express Base Station. However, that is not the problem. Only one (1) iMac has this problem. All other computing devices have no issues whatsoever.
Looks like another bizarre problem that I'll have to solve without Apple's help. Joy.
If you look through the threads, you will find that this problem has been going on for a few years at least and there has been no solution. I have completely given up on connecting wirelessly to the Internet on mine after trying about ever suggestion known to man. Every PC in the house does just fine.
What year is this that I have a 1 year old computer that is unable to reliably connect to the Internet using wireless? "It just works", does it?
Tell me your exact Mac OS X operating system 10.5.x, 10.4.x ..etc. Also tell me how your network is setup (how many..what kind) and the router you use and who your ISP is. I will try to help you out.
Thanks Chris ... a.k.a xtech
I have an iMac, Intel core 2 duo, 2.66, running 10.5.6 from a Qwest Q1000 wireless modem and I have the same problem.
Connection drops, restored by restarting airport.
I currently live in France (purchased the iMac in Vancouver tho) so my ISP is Orange but I still have the same issue..,

I have a MacBook Pro 13 running 10.6.3 and it's doing exactly the same thing as you guys describe. Staying connected to the wireless network but loosing all internet connectivity.
I think it could either be down to the latest update or it not liking WEP encryption, as I've recently switched from the newer WPA.
This is not an ISP issue as I'm in the UK.
