Moving Mail box contents to a newer Mac

I have decided to update my MacBook Pro to a newer model, and want to move the not inconsiderable existing contents of my mailboxes to the new computer.

How do I find where they are on the old computer, can I copy them onto a memory stick (thumb drive) and where do i put them on the new Mac, please?

In both cases I want to use the provided Mail programme.
