Disk Utility Restore error

I am trying to copy my Time Machine backup drive to a larger hard drive. Using the Restore function in Disk Utility I get "Can not validate size - Invalid argument" error. What is wrong? And is there a better way to do this?

Is the larger drive partitioned GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled? Is the drive empty or does it have other files on it?

Disk was just erased in Disk Utility using the defaults of GUID Mac OS Extended, Journaled, one partition. No files on it. It is an 8 TB disk. The source is 3 TB and is almost full.
