Can i create and use my own apple ID and still ...

I share an itunes account with my sisters and they wont let me use my imessage or facetime because it shows up and says what ive been doing and they dont want that. So can i make my own account so i can use imessage and facetime but still get my music using our shared account?

Yes, you will want to create an Apple ID specifically for your use that will be associated with Facetime, iMessage, Find My iPhone, etc. You can set this up on your iPod by entering the shared Apple ID into the "iTunes & App Store" in Settings, and then your personal Apple ID into "FaceTime" and "Message" in Settings.

Sorry, Andrew, but that is completely wrong. You can indeed have content from multiple iTunes Store accounts on a single device. I have content from three different accounts on my computers and both my iPads.

Sorry varjak, I was reading your post wrong. I was confused because you indicated a limit of 5 accounts for a single device. To be clear, couldn't you have 20 Apple IDs, all authorized to play on a single iPod touch? Wouldn't that then mean that you can have content from (20) iTunes Store accounts on any given computer or iOS device."?

Thanks this was really helpful! I didnt know if it would affect my ipod as result of having different accounts, now i know it wont :) Im not planning on putting any music on the account i created, so i think the guy was wrong about the 5 account thing :p thanks for your help

No. Again, you can have content from a maximum of five accounts. If you had twenty Apple IDs/iTunes Store accounts, you'd have to choose five from that group to provide content for any given device.

No, I am not wrong. Again, you can have content from up to five different iTunes Store accounts on an iPod touch, other iOS device, or computer. As I said, I do this all the time, including with the iPad I have sitting next to me right now which has content from three different accounts with no problems whatsoever.

So, I was wrong about the 5 devices per Apple ID, it's 10. But you CAN only have ONE Apple ID associated with each device (as it pertains to iTunes Store/App Store Purhcases).

You are misreading. That is for iTunes Match and Automatic Downloads, and says how many devices you can have associated with a given iTunes Store account:

Your Apple ID can have up to 10 devices and computers (combined) associated with it.

But you CAN only have ONE Apple ID associated with each device (as it pertains to iTunes Store/App Store Purhcases).

Again, you are completely wrong. I don't know how many times I have to say this. I have, in my possession right this minute, two different devices with content from three different iTunes Store accounts and at home have two more, also with content from three different iTunes Store accounts, said content including apps, music, movies and iBooks.

I don't mean to be insuting, but you do not know what you're talking about and are just misleading the original poster. I would politely ask that you bow out of this thread now.
