Keyboard marks on my retina display
Hey all, Ive been using the retina display model for about 4 months and ive noticed that there are perminate keyboard, key, makrs on my screen, theyre getting worse day by day, also theyve made white spots appear on my screen, which is annoying. Yes i clean my sceen quite often but the marks are getting to me, also no keyboard cover is being used. I spent $3000+ on this and this shouldnt be happening right? Anyone experiencing the same issues? Thanks.
When I close the lid on my MBP I use the slip of foam that came with it just for that.
No, but that shouldnt be the case, is anyone ese experiencing the same issue?
I do the same as Sig, but use a chamois cloth instead (well washed so that there are no oils in it). I think that may very well be the case if the cover presses down on the keyboard.
Ciao.
Exactly. It keeps the oils from your fingers from getting on the screen as well as any key imprints from the keyboard.
Right this is a problem with the retina models as there is no rubber bumper surrounding the screen enclosure like on the standard MBP models.
No I don't have that problem and no I don't use anything in between the screen and the keyboard. That is just foolish. If Apple can't make a system that when the screen is closed it doesn't touch the keyboard then it's time to switch to a different system maker.
Of course.
Has this been happening to everyone, or just OP?
Okay so I called Apple and theyve replaced my display for free!
Problem solved!
I have exactly the same problem and have been searching online for somene like me! My MBPR 15 started showing tiny white "pits" in the screen that has been getting progressively worse. I can see now that they are in a line that matches up with the bottom row of the keyboard along the space bar. I did use a thin microfiber keyboard cloth to protect the screen when the lid was closed, but this didn't seem to make any difference.
I bought it through the Apple store in singapore (I live in Thailand) and will be travelling to Geneva, Switzerland next month so I'll be dropping into the store there to see what happens....
Let me know what they say because im going in for another vist, saddly after replacing my screen the marks have started to appear again!
I'm having the same problem. I bought my 15 inch Retina MacBook Pro in mid Feburary, had the screen replaced early May and have just made another appointment for later this week as the screen has started getting marks on it again, worst than the first time too!
You were told that the foam padding or chamois will padd the display that does *not* have rubber surround padding.
Repeating a behavior and getting the same result is supposed to teach, but one must be willing to learn. I suspect Apple may not be as generous for this next fix.
This is a common problem with many laptops. I have have used a Shaggymax Protector for many years, works like a charm.
Exact same issue here. Also had my first display replaced already. The brand new one is already looking like @#$#! Question is why does it not happen to everyone?
