iPad died and cant restore backup on new iPad

iPad 3 died a sudden death. I presume it overheated and died. Tried installing new battery and the logic board just gets warm and it wont switch on. Nothing happens in iTunes when connected to PC. Tried the Home button and power button, nothing happens. So I think we can consider its dead.

Bought a new iPad, but I can't restore the back up form the old iPad.

The only option I had was to restore from iPhone.

I thought all pics etc were stored in iCloud when iPad was backed up? Is there a way to access the old iPad backup? Its greyed out on iPhone in the iCloud back up option. I think I backed it up a month or so ago.
Seems I've lost lots of photos.

What iOS did the dead iPad and your new one have?

If your dead one had 10.3 for example on it and your new one only has 10.0, then update the new one (set it up as new, update it, then try to restore from your backup)

iOS backups are not backwards compatible

Maybe that can work

Beyond that, your iCloud should be the apple ID you used on your old iPad.  Are you using that same Apple ID on your new device?
