iTunes stops playing when I adjust volume on co...

I'm using iTunes v. 12.7.0.166 - on an ASUS Laptop (X556UR-FB72). Every once in a while when I adjust the volume on my laptop (using the volume key on the keyboard [fn + f11 for volume down of f12 for volume up]), the song I was listening to in iTunes will stop playing. Pressing pause / resume then does nothing, and the song-progress bar will remain stationary. Starting a new song also does nothing - progress bar stays the same, doesn't move. I either have to restart iTunes or wait a while (~10 mins) and once I start a new song iTunes will start functioning again.

Just wondering if this is an iTunes issue? Maybe an ASUS issue? Is there some iTunes function I'm starting without knowing when I press the f11/f12 keys to adjust volume on my PC?
