"Completing Installation: About 2 minutes remai...

How come every time I boot up my MBP 15in touch bar late 2016, I see a "Completing Installation: About 2 min remaining" load bar? I tried restarting, making sure my system is up to date and no luck. I don't know where to start or make this go away.

10.12.5 macOS Sierra

2.7 GHz i7

Try booting into Safe Mode: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262 and see if the issue persists there.

Tried safe mode and that did not clear the problem. Any other ideas? I tried reading the install.log and system.log and honestly, those didn't make sense to me.

When you go to the App Store and look in Updates, anything there? Purchased, what's recent?

In the App Store, everything is up to date.

Any idea? I've booted in Safe Mode and still the same issue.

I've never heard of this issue and don't really know what to try next. I know if it was me, I'd first contact Apple if it was convenient enough (hope you're still under 90 days of free phone support). In my case, this was directly related to FileVault2.  Even performing an authorized restart to alleviate the FileVault issue did not work, as I mentioned in this post. 

I even tried re-installing MacOS Sierra as suggested in this thread; but this did not work.

Unfortunately, I had to completely decrypt the disk, reboot "a couple" times (just to make sure whatever was installing finished installing), then re-encrypt the disk with a new recovery key.  It took a few hours...thankfully, the OS is still available to use during both decryption and encryption.

After bypassing this FileVault2 issue, I am happy to report that the "Completing Installation" message is now absent from my boot sequence (and the system does appear to boot a little quicker, too!).
