TC with Century Link modem but without TC wifi?

Hi,  I just switched to CenturyLink.  I have a modem and it has it's own wifi network.  I want to connect my TC so I can continue to back-up with Time Machine but not use the TC for wifi.  How do I do that.  The modem has ethernet plugs in the back.  I have an iMac with High Sierra.

What you are asking about might work....but....this type of setup will not be officially supported by Apple if you are having problems. 

Do you want to attempt this anyway?  We can't offer any guarantees that this will work, although in theory it should. (Famous last words, I know.)

Are you planning to turn off the wireless on the TC, or keep it active as a network that guests might use?
