Mac Mail cannot Send Messages

  • I have OSX Sierra 10.12.5.
  • Mac Mail will no longer send messages. SMTP servers time out/cannot connect
  • SMPT server list is suddenly empty
  • Just yesterday I was sending emails fine... today this!

Please read If you can’t send or receive email on your Mac - Apple Support.

Thanks for the help, but still no solution... My incoming IMAP server connection is stable, and I am receiving mail no problem. Internet is working fine. My iphone has all the same email address accounts and can send and receive as well on same internet connection without any problems, but that is iOS. This is just a problem with the outgoing SMTP servers, and after attempting to manually put in the SMTP server settings, I still cannot send messages. Still looking for a solution!

You say you have attempted to set up the SMTP manually (assuming with info provided from your ISP), but have you tried copying the settings from the SMTP on your iPhone, which you say still works - that includes not just address and password but port number, security etc.

This has merit, however I am not sure how to proceed fully. I went into my settings on both my iPhone for Mail and my Mac to try and mirror the same SMTP settings, however when I get to where it says Authentication, my phone is setup with OAuth 2.0 Token, and my Mac has no such option available in the dropdown. So I am unable to copy it verbatim. Any ideas?

You must be talking about Gmail, which I don't use but I believe it gets the token during the sign in/add account process - so it should be automatic. See this article https://productforums.google.com/forum/

Not sure if this will help but sounds similar missing smtp outgoing mail servers , it discusses a couple of options, one of which requires that you have a Time Machine BackUp.

FWIW this is what I have, probably due to the fact I'm still using a POP account

But my iCloud account does have "Apple Token" for Authentication but it's greyed out so can't be changed - again because its probably sent via Apple during the setup process.

Hope the above helps.

This might also help, especially response from Ralph Johns (UK) in the last paragraph where he talks about getting his SMTP server entry back Gmail Account Not Showing in Mail App

Maddening how no one at Apple will acknowledge this issue and provide any comment, assurance or solution.
