Event or calendar invitation in Mail does not s...
Hi,
When I receive an ics file attachment with an invitation to an event in Mail I click on the attachment and Calendar opens.
That's it. Nothing more. I also expected more to happen.
I have memories of an icon in Calendar where these invites would gather automagically. I even recall having seen an accept dialogue in Mail. Years ago I have even sent acceptations to invites.
Currently I use OS X 10.12.6 and I never did a clean install since OS X 10.0 some 16 years ago.
I do not use iCloud (or intend to). I have set up Calendar to work with an owncloud CalDAV service from a local ISP (for legal reasons, I am sorry).
Things stopped working when Apple started pushing me into that iCloud service some years ago. I was glad I managed to get owncloud installed and working on the server side, but now I start to miss those old features.
Article PH22692 suggests a "Notifications button in the toolbar." Yes, please!
Thank you in advance for setting me on the right path to solve this.
In Calendar Preferences > Accounts, add your CalDAV account using "other "CalDAV account".
hi Diane of Oregon,
I did not mention this explicitly, but when I set up the owncloud CalDAV service I also configured it on the client side. I have 4 calendars working which also synchronise with three other devices (both iOS and OS X).
Read this article : Calendar (El Capitan): Invite people to events
Hi tygb,
Yes, I read that article. Interesting for when I get to inviting others. But that is later. First I would like accept an invitation and have it added to Calendar. So far, clicking on it does nothing. It only opens Calendar.
Make sure Calendar is open THEN add an invite and see if it adds now. Same behavior with adding a email address from Mail to Contacts. I also see something similar when I move a URL from Safari to Chrome. If Chrome is not open it just opens Chrome and does not enter the link, but if Chrome is already open it works as expected.
You can share your calendar account Calendar (El Capitan): Share calendar accounts
Dear Diane of Oregon,
Thank you again for bothering to reply. Unfortunately my question is not about starting an event sending invitations from Calendar. That is for later. First I want to accept an invitation which comes to me through Mail. Clicking on the ICS-file in the attachment should launch Calendar and give me a choice to accept or not. This does not happen and I do not know why.
Any help is appreciated about this.
Dear Tygb,
Thank you for contributing something that also has to with Calendars. I already share my accounts with other devices and users. Now I want to accept an invitation arriving by Mail into one of the calendars. Unfortunately I see strange behaviour when I click on an ICS attachment to an e-mail message.
goedemorgen,
it is clear what you want, the click on the ics file should open Calendar and bring the invitation.
Diane asked if your issue is the same when you have Calendar already open before you click the ICS file....
PS: there is a difference between open and open:
"open" when Calendar is not running (start and display window) and "open" when Calendar is running but not showing the Calendar window...
possible case for misunderstanding each other.
Hi,
Yes, Calendar is already (always) open when I click on the ICS attachment in Mail. It brings Calendar to the front.
When I read Diane her contribution I understood that she was writing about adding invites (not events) and that the addresses of invitees should be in Contacts. I have an event coming in that should go to Calendar. I do not (yet) want to invite others for an event I create. First things first...
Thanks for joining the parade of contributions!
I have this problem as well.
I frequently receive calendar invites, both to a gmail address and to a work email address. Occasionally the event is added to Calendar when I accept an invitation but most of the time, when I click on "Accept" or "Maybe" invitations simply move to the Trash folder in Mail and nothing is added to Calendar. If I try again to accept, the invitation email disappears completely (from the Trash)!
I can send invitations to others without problem. I am running OS X El Capitan v 10.11.6 on a MacBook Pro.
Thanks for any advice
