When using the outdoor cycle workout on my watch, the data screen goes blank. The workout continues to record my time, distance, and other data correctly but I am not able to see it during the ride. It looks like there is a new blank screen that is created. Has this happened to anyone?
Hi
It is normal for the screen to sleep during a workout, as at any other time when you are not interacting with your watch (by tapping on the screen) and/or your wrist has not recently been raised (with Wake Screen on Wrist Raise enabled).
It's not just going to sleep, it will not display the data even after I raise my arm, tap the screen, etc. The app has two screens, one with the data and one with the lock, stop and pause. When this issue happens, it seems like it creates a third screen that is blank. If you try to drag the screen to the third screen you can barely see the data but it won't stay on the display.
The following general troubleshooting steps may help:
- If you have not yet done so, update your iPhone and Apple Watch to the latest software, starting with your iPhone:
- Restart both your iPhone and your watch, turning both off together, then restarting your iPhone first:
- Unpair and re-pair your watch:
- The Watch app on your iPhone takes a backup of your watch automatically when unpairing via the app. Choose to Restore from Backup during set up. Most data and settings will be restored, with some exceptions (eg Apple Pay cards, passcode).
- Unpair your Apple Watch and iPhone - Apple Support
- Set up your Apple Watch - Apple Support
If the issue then persists, I suggest that you contact Apple Support or make a Genius Bar reservation for assistance:

I had the same issue today. I was doing a walking workout and I got an alert - I dismissed the alert and the workout details screen was blank. I swiped/pulled left on the screen and was able to partially see the workout details but it wouldn't allow me to pull it into place.
The observation I made was that in the workout there are two "dots" that indicate how many screen you can swipe. One screen has the lock, end, pause options and the other had the blank screen after the alert was dismissed. It appears the workout was on a 3rd screen, but since there are only two screens for the workout I was unable to swipe it over.
I have no idea how to resolve though.
I have had the exact same issue. I received a message while using the "outdoor run" work out tracker. I cleared the message, but then instead of viewing my metrics while running, it showed me a blank screen with the clock time in the top right corner of the watch. When i finished the run, the information was saved correctly, however, i was not able to view the info while running. I live in South Africa so not sure how to get support for this. Does any of the community members know if this is a software issue? Would love some assistance with this.
I have the exact same issue. So frustrating.
I was able to screenshot the issue.
The data you see here is on the RIGHT screen that won't slide left past this point.
Have the exact same problem. Metrics disappear during outdoor walk, can see the metrics off the screen but can't slide them over to restore the screen. Fairly repeatable and very annoying.
Did anyone get an answer or resolve the issue? I've been having the same issue. I just chatted with support and they want me to send my watch in for "repair". I was told the repair amounts to wiping the watch and reinstalling the OS. It will take up to two weeks, and they may instead send me a refurbished watch as replacement. I thought I would check before sending it. Updating OS, restoring from backup, re-pairing, and setting up wallet again is time consuming. I've been through this a few times.
Hi,
I had this problem as well. Was on a 15 km walk and basically could not view any stats/ progress for the entirety of the walk. Did not want to cancel as I wanted to keep the GPS map of my walk. Is this a bug or am I not doing something right? I was wondering if I had accidentally activated a lock key or power saving mode. So far I have not been able to replicate the issue.
I had the exact same problem this morning during my outdoor cycling. The screen was displaying stats fine, an alert came dismissed it and after that it was blank. Like someone else in this thread I could see there was a 3rd screen that was partially visible but I could not pull it in. I had to finally end the workout although I was not done and restart it so I could see the stats
This seemed to work but quite annoying that the screen just disappears.
I have the latest OS
