iOS 9.3.5 crashing unstable
iPad 2, all apps tend to freeze and crash frequently. Is this a known instability of iOS 9.3.5?
Hi Bobby Collins,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding the apps on your iPad 2 have been freezing and crashing. I use so many apps on my iPad daily. It would surely impact my usage if they began to freeze or crash. I can understand your concern. I'm happy to help. If you haven't already I recommend restarting the iPad. This can resolve many unexpected behaviors. Use the steps below:
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
- Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
- After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
Since the issue is occurring with all apps, it's possible the software is the cause. If the issue persists after restarting, I recommend reinstalling iOS. It is very important to have a recent backup. If you need assistance backing up use the following link: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Once backed up, follow the steps below to reinstall iOS with iTunes:
If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Make sure that you're using the latest version of iTunes.
- If iTunes is already open, close it. Connect your device to your computer and open iTunes. If you don't have a computer, borrow one from a friend or go to an Apple Retail Store or Apple Authorized Service Provider for help.
- While your device is connected, force restart it with these steps:
- On an iPhone 6s and earlier, iPad, or iPod touch: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
- On an iPhone 7 or iPhone 7 Plus: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Volume Down buttons at the same time. Don't release the buttons when you see the Apple logo. Keep holding both buttons until you see the recovery mode screen.
- When you see the option to Restore or Update, choose Update. iTunes will try to reinstall iOS without erasing your data. Wait while iTunes downloads the software for your device. If the download takes more than 15 minutes and your device exits recovery mode, let the download finish, then repeat these steps.
- After the Update or Restore completes, set up your device.
Have an amazing day!
You can, also, try my list of tips here.
Good Luck!
This hasn't helped at all I've tried to reinstall the os a few times and I was good for a few days than back to it crashing
It's why they they make ur older products useless so you would buy newer ipads instead of keeping ur old ones
Did you try tapping on my link of tips for a slow iPad, try doing all of the things listed in my link and see if your iPad functions better?
I use an iPad 2 and it is running just peachy using my list of tips.
Soon, your 6 YEAR OLD iPad 2 will be completely obsoleted with the new iOS 11 coming.
An iPad 2, 3, 4 and 1st gen iPad Mini will no longer be getting any more app updates any longer.
So, sooner or later, circumstances WILL force you to have to upgrade to a new or "newer" (used) iPad model.
How long do you expect Apple to support legacy devices?
Google Android and Microsoft support older mobile devices for even lesser timeframe.
I have same problem with 2 ipad (iPad2 and iPad mini) the IOS 9.3.5 I can't install the recent version. I am not haapy because the cost for two others ones will be 1000 $. I sugest the change for Android. Also I have a lot of problems with Bluetoot. We cannot update version and some products stop to transfer information between peripherals and iPad. I spend money for peripherals ans they are obsolet. I used apple products long time ago, I start with Apple 2E with floppies. Now it is enough. Apple loose the citizen approach, money is not important for Apple but we cannot print money.
So, you cannot install iOS 10 or 11 on older iPad models.
So what?
Many apps for older iPad models, TO THIS DAY, are still receiving App Updates.
My iPad 2 and 3 models are STILL getting app updates for about 90-95% of my total installed apps!
AND, as I already stated, both of these iPads work and run fine on iOS 9.3.5.
I've got NO complaints or issues.
What are you using for peripheral devices that suddenly just stop working with your iPad 2?
What's your problem/s?
Android devices will go obsolete in an even shorter amount of time!
Not to mention the thousands of adware/malware and mobile viruses Google “Hemroid” is riddled with!
So, good luck with THAT decision!
