Pages has no touch bar control?

Dear community

I own a MacBook Pro with touch bar. When I was using pages it gives me a nice range of touch bar app controls such as colors, arrangements, etc. But however recently those controls just disappeared. (in my settings I always selected "App controls with control strip", and switching to "App controls" doesn't work) I don't know how this happened and how to fix it. Tried Command-Option-P-R on startup but no hope. However other apps such as safari has normal app controls so I suspect there are some problems with the pages app. So anyone had this issue too? And how to fix it?
