trying to import music from CD using a peripher...

trying to import music from CD using a peripheral CD drive.  Although iTunes recognizes the CD contents and displays the track info, when trying to import it says "the disc cannot be recognized".  What's wrong?  How do I correct?

bear in mind, this drive has always worked before; this is the first time I have had any difficulty. I suspect the problem is with iTunes, that the capability has somehow been altered or lost.
