When will playlists be added back to Apple Watch?

After updating to WatchOS 4, I was disappointed to find that I can no longer change playlists using my Apple Watch Sport ("series 1"). I don't want to have to pull out my iPhone to change playlists. I also do not want to copy music to my Apple Watch. When will playlists from the iPhone be added back to Music?
