My Mac wont boot up. Error on test 4/mot/4/40000003 HDD 1223. Computer is 27 inch 5 years old. Is it worth taking it to a repair shop?

Certainly worth taking it to an Apple Centre for a free diagnostic.

MOT is a motor error.

Either the fan near the Hard Disk Drive, or the Drive itself can not spin up its motor.

Either of those repairs are likely to cost you under US$100.
