Can you have multiple users on Apple Music fami...
Hi all,
I would be grateful is somebody could help me on this. I am new to Apple Music and I have chose the family membership. This is what I would like to know - is there a way you can have two separate users/accounts under the one subscription? For instance I want to be able to listen and access all my songs on my iPhone, my Dad wants to listen and access all his songs on his iPod touch, is there a way this can be done without seeing each other's songs? I want to listen to my songs and not have his songs popping up on recently played etc, which is currently happening. Now we have separate iCloud's, but the store email address is obviously the main one which I also use on my iPhone for purchases etc. It's no big deal, I suppose I could put up with his songs popping up but just thought I'd ask on here, probably a simple solution.
I hope I have explained this well enough.
Any help would be much appreiated.
Good evening RyanEFC1878,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand you have some questions about the Apple Music Family Membership that you created with your Dad. Your expectation is correct -- in the For You section of the Library, you should only be seeing the your personalized music content, not your Dad's activity. It sounds like you are both using the same Apple ID (which is an email address).
As the organizer, make sure you are using the main Apple ID that you have used in the past for all of your iTunes Store purchases. Then, make sure your Dad has signed up with the Apple ID that he has always used for iTunes Store purchases. If it is the same as yours, then have him join using his iCloud address (which is also an Apple ID and should be different from yours).
Take a look at the resources below to check your Family Sharing and Apple Music Membership settings. I've highlighted some key information here for you. Click on the links for complete details.
Use your own Apple ID for Family Sharing
Avoid sharing an Apple ID
If you share the same Apple ID with a family member for iTunes & App Store purchases, certain services will treat you as the same person. You may see these and other issues:
- Apple Music family membership: Instead of receiving your own membership with your own library, you’ll share a library and recommendations with the other family member.
- iTunes, iBooks, and App Store purchases: If Family Sharing is ever stopped, the owner of the shared Apple ID will keep all purchases. You might lose access to everything in the account, including purchases you initiated.
- Podcasts, iBooks, and iTunes U: Podcast episodes, bookmarks, and iTunes U courses might sync according to the other family member’s preferences or be accidentally deleted.
To see which Apple ID your family member is using to share, tap Settings > [your name] > Family Sharing, then tap their name. If you're using iOS 10.2 or earlier, tap Settings > iCloud > Family. Make sure that no one else is using your Apple ID to share content.

Use Apple Music on your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, or Android phone
Library
The Library tab makes it easy to navigate all of your music, wherever it comes from—from the iTunes Store, from a rare import CD, or from your Apple Music membership.
You can view the music in your Library by Albums, Artists, Compilations, Composers, Downloaded Music, Genres, Playlists, Songs, TV & Movies, and Videos. To reorganize what you see in Library, tap Edit in the upper-right corner, then select the options that you want to see. Use
to reorganize their order, then tap Done in the upper-right corner to save your changes.
The Recently Added section updates automatically when you add content from the Apple Music catalog to your Library.
For YouIn the For You tab, you can discover albums and playlists curated by our team of experts to match your musical tastes, updated daily. The suggestions you see in For You are influenced by:
- The music that you listen to from the Apple Music catalog.
- What you tell us that you love or dislike.
- The genre and artist choices that you made when you first joined Apple Music. Learn how to update your choices.
You can also see what you’ve been playing recently, as well as posts from your favorite artists in Connect.
In the upper right corner, you can access your Apple Music account settings. Just tap
or your photo. On the Account screen, you can refine the suggestions you see in Apple Music, find artists to follow in Connect, redeem gift cards, and manage your Apple Music membership. You can also sign in with your Apple ID if you're not already signed in.
Enjoy!
