How do I change the calendar alert sound?
I have selected sound to play every time I receive a calendar alert but how do I select a sound to one of my choosing? Repeatedly I have selected "Glass" in prefs/sound but each calendar alert I get it defaults to "Basso". How can I save my selection? Thank you.
Hey MiqsPix,
Try this → Calendar (Yosemite): Change the default alert settings for events
Let me know if it works,
Cheers !
Thanks, but no. That is a basic guide to enable sounds to an alert. I have already done as said but want to change the default sound to one of my choosing. Perhaps it is not possible do this. Incidentally I am running Sierra not Yosemite so will this be relevant? I guess it's not that important but still annoying!
There's no GUI setting you can change. I doubt there's a Terminal command but I've been surprised before.
Ok .... but seems a retrograde step in my opinion as I was able to do this when using OSX Lion some years ago. You could choose whichever sound you wanted to any Mac event, Calendar or otherwise.
Aw sorry, I did not understand it !
Well, running Sierra or Yosemite will not be relevant in this situation.
And as Dialabrain said, there's no Terminal command to do such a thing. Sounds are hidden in deep locations.
This works because the Calendar and Reminders both rely the system sound "Basso" as their default alert sound.
That sound is located in /System/Library/Sounds and is called Basso.aiff
Here's an unofficial solution to fix the issue:
1. Delete Basso.aiff
2. Find a better alert sound
3. Change the name of the sound to, "Basso" and convert it to AIFF so it should now be called, "Basso.aiff"
4. Move the file to /System/Library/Sounds
5. Restart the computer
6. Now your default alarm for Calendar and Reminders has a great sound.
Hope this will help,
Cheers !
Thanks for the idea iDriss_5555. Just tried it and got the following: “Basso.aiff” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by macOS. But I tried
As you found out, stuff inside /System cannot be modified. This is an important security feature, part of System Integrity Protection (SIP). This can be turned off but you really shouldn't.
Use feedback to make a feature request:
Create an event in calendar on a date .
Click on alert > custom.
See the steps in screen shots .
You can fill up the rest of credentials and click on ok .
Yeah so this way you can change the sound on an individual basis. If I have to do this for every event on my calendar, that would take ages.
This shows that it is possible to change the sound, it's just not possible to change the default sound.
