Getting my old backups out of trash

I put my old backups in the trash, figureing I could delete them but no....

Now they are stuck there.

I have an external drive that I use for time machine backups.

Looked online but couldn't find any solution.

Never attempt to delete Time Machine backups through Finder, they will always stick in the Trash. The only recommended way to delete them is via the Time Machine interface.

If you disconnect your TM drive you will notice they will disappear from your Trash. The best way to delete them is to erase your Time Machine drive and start over.
