Samsung SSD Evo 840 not recognized in my ...
Hi my Macbook Pro Mid 2012 with Yosemite is not recognized my Samsung SSD 540 Evo, but if I use it external is working fine.. but wont boot in the internal bay. Any help??
Will this drive boot from the external enclosure if you set it as the Startup Disk?
Yes, boot from external enclosure but I want to replace my old HD form the internal bay.... don't want to be carrying the usb enclosure all the time.
Then the drive boots and is working, but perhaps the cable that connects it internally is not working.
I think ifixit.com can sell you a spare internal cable to try pretty cheap.
You think is the cable .. I can see the SSD and copy files to the SDD, but not install the Yosemite. Well I will try give the cable just to be sure.
You said the drive is "Not recognized" as an Internal drive. if you can copy files to it, it most certainly IS recognized.
If the only problem is that the drive will not BOOT as an Internal, that is a completely different problem than what you described initially.
The SSD I can see it but can't install Yosemite what can I do???
The Mac has always used the new Operating System to Install the new Operating System to protect you from surprises like this. The idea is that if it cannot run well enough to Install, you should not try to run it.
If you cannot Install Yosemite, you should debug exactly WHY that is.
One common reason is not having GUID partition table in place on the drive. Another is using a partition type other than MacOS Extended, (journaled). Yosemite also wants to change to a new Disk Drive organization, so it needs to be able to move a few things around. Best results are obtained with a nearly-blank drive, not one with hundreds of thousands of files on it
It is possible that if the drive is flaky (either because of problems inside the drive, or because the cable is flaky) you can copy a few files, but not the 350,000 files need for Mac OS X Install.
SSD is brand new..out of the box never use it before... is working totally fine on my external enclosure. Yosemite installs fine and I can run normally. As soon as I put it into the internal the Yosemite install just never finishes, time keeps restarting. I can see the SSD i can copy files but I can't install Yosemite. what do think I can do??

Great. Then problems with the SDD itself are far less likely.

Good. then your Yosemite Installer is not damaged, and your SSD is probably good.

Then there is a problem with that setup. If you have installed onto it as an external, it is unlikely to be a Drive format problem. But to give yourself the best possible outcomes, use Disk Utility to erase the SSD before the Install.
Be methodical. Use a process of elimination. What can you trust, and what are you not sure of?
It still could be a marginal Drive cable. ifixit and other sellers can sell you a new cable for very little money.
This is a installation log file can u check it out???
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/95480346/Installer%20Log%204-Nov-2014.txt
According to that log, OS X Installer crashed on a bad memory reference. That COULD indicate RAM memory problems, or a dozen other things.
But -- if you were able to install on that same drive using a different connection method, (external Vs Internal) it is more likely to be a problem with the thing that is different, (i.e., 'where the drive is installed').
What I can try is to install another Hard Disk internal to see if the problem is the cable??
i have the same problem as you , but i've tried install to another harddisk ( not SSD , seagate 500gb 7200 ) , and its working fine and complete install yosemite , the problem is not with the cable , i think its with the samsung ssd 840 evo
have u try to upgrade ur ssd firmware ?
Well, it happened to me last night. I bought Samsung EVO 840 250GB to reply my 500GB old HDD in my early 2011 macbook pro. Backup everything before replacing my previous HDD to SSD. I was trying to make a fresh install of mavericks through USB installer but to my horror mbp does not recognize the SSD. In the booth option i can only see the osx usb installer. Nothing else. Done some research that it is possible that it was because of a faulty cable but obviously not as it can read my old HDD well.
So what i did is that, i put the old HDD into an enclosure and did not remove the SDD i installed inside the mbp. I plug in the external HD (old HDD inside enclosure) then boot recovery partition. There, i reformatted SSD with GUID** selected, mac os jornaled, named it MACSSD. After that i choose to re-install osx mountain lion (my previous os version) and selected MACSSD drive. It downloaded the installer online. Once done, i remove external HDD then tried to boot. It worked! i have a fresh osx installed. Proceeded to upgrade to yosemite after everything settled.
Sorry for my english. Lol
