Approve

I have an iPad that I forgot it's password. It was backed up before I forgot the password. I had a friend reset it so I can back it up and retrieve everything. I set everything but the screen says my backup is secured by the password I had. I clicked forgot iPod touch password button. A bubble(probably called something else) pops up saying I can approve this device from another device. So I said use other device but it stays there saying "Waiting for approval..." but it sends nothing to my other device. I would like to know what to do.
