Upgrading iPhone to iCloud Drive, syncing with ...

Hi,

I want to upgrade my iPhone 5 (iOS 10) to iCloud Drive so I can access more features, backup and save files there.

Problem is I can't upgrade my 2008 MBP beyond Mavericks because it's old and incompatible but working well, and currently don't have a budget for a new MBP.

It's important to me that my iPhone syncs my Reminders, Notes, Safari bookmarks and Tabs, Contacts, etc. with my Mac (10.9.5)

Before upgrading to iCloud Drive, I get a warning note that I will not be able to access the documents currently stored in iCloud on my MBP until it is also upgraded to Yosemite or later; so I'm afraid it would stop syncing with my iPhone or having other disadvantages if I do the upgrade like having my Mac incompatible with the upgraded iCloud account.

Please advise.

Note that it says:

'If you upgrade to iCloud Drive now:

• Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8 or later, Mac computers with OS X Yosemite or later, PCs with iCloud for Windows, and iCloud.com.
• Your documents will no longer keep up to date on devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
• You’ll be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
• You’ll be able to use the Share via iCloud feature with iOS 8 or later, OS X Yosemite or later, and iCloud.com.
• Documents you previously shared via iCloud are accessible to collaborators.'

(My emphasis in red).  And:

'If you don’t upgrade to iCloud Drive at this time:

• Your documents will keep up to date across devices with iOS 8 and across devices with iOS 7 and Macs with OS X Mavericks or earlier.
• You won’t be able to use the iWork web apps on iCloud.com.
• You won’t be able to use the Share via iCloud feature.
• Documents you previously shared via iCloud won’t be accessible to collaborators until you upgrade to iCloud Drive.'
