FaceTime not compatible with older devices/OS s...

After updating my iPad mini 4 to iOS 11.0.1, my parents can no longer see video of me on their iPad 2 running iOS 7. Audio works but all they see is a message stating "Poor Connection" and a black screen. I can see and hear them on my iPad. Did Apple change something in the video protocol with iOS 11 so that it no longer is compatible with older versions iOS or older devices? Previously on iOS 10 I had no issues at all with either my iPad, iPhone or my Mac. Appreciate any advice/solution anyone might have. Cheers.
