Apple Watch Series 2 Swim Tracking

I recently purchased an Apple Watch Series 2, and had my first swim.  As instructed on the Apple website, I opened the Workout app on the watch, updated the pool length, and then was asked to enter Active Calories. Isn't this supposed to be automatically calculated? What am I supposed to input here?

You are referring to one of the options (Active calories) for setting a goal for your swimming workout.

To select a different type of goal (options include Open, for an open-ended workout, with no goal), swipe sideways across the screen.
