My family shares the same apple id, how do I ge...

My son got a new phone, we took out his SIM card and put in new phone. When we started his phone he chose to use as new phone.  His phone number is showing up on my phone as "me".  We share the same apple id.  how do we correct this? Does he just need a separate icloud account?

Certainly, sharing an ID is a recipe for sure disaster.
