connect iphone7 to new macbook pro

I have a iPhone7 2017 and I am buying a Mac Book Pro 2017, what type of connection required to plug in my phone to the laptop? I have been told that I need to buy an adapter? Seriously, Apple! Your own machines cannot connect to each other? Why should I pay for an adapter, it should provided with the Mac book pro.
