TV app on iOS

I used to love the iOS Video app - it was so easy to transfer movies and TV shows.  But the new iOS TV app seems to be an over-engineered hot mess (running iTune 12.7.0.166 and iOS 11).  I find that it's extremely slow - especially for  people like me who live in a low-bandwidth area since every time it starts, it goes out to the internet - takes FOREVER to come up.   Apple needs to realize that not everyone lives in an area with gigbit speeds.  It also frequently crashes in the middle of movies/shows that I'm streaming from my iTunes library running on my iMac (Late 2013 model).  Finally, I find the interface extremely confusing and difficult to use - especially when on business travel.  It shows my entire library - not just what's on my phone - so I have to start watching a show and see if it tries to download it from the cloud to know if it's on my phone or not - even for shows that I've ripped from BRD/DVD and have NEVER even been in the cloud.  Again - a mess.  Sadly, I've had to resort to using the VLC iOS app. Which isn't integrated but is much easier to use, and in all honesty, a better video player with some really cool features.  Has anyone else 1) experienced these problems? 2) have suggestions on how to resolve/manage them? or, 3) know if there are any plans to redesign iTunes and iOS  TV/Music apps?  Thanks.
