How do I ascertain if someone has remotely take...

How do I ascertain if someone has taken over my computer remotely?  I was redirected without my knowledge to a site claiming to be an HP site, and I let them take over my screen.  I got suspicious when they wanted to change something in my network and it would take 20 to 30 minutes.  Now my Mac has slowed considerably and when I type I have to wait so long for the letters to appear that I get frustrated and quit.  Please help.

You let them take over your computer.

It's been compromised. There is nothing else to figure out.

Back up your data.

Erase the drive and re-install macOS using Internet recovery.

Change ALL of your passwords.

Notify your bank(s) that your account(s) and credit/debit card(s) have been compromised.

Don't EVER believe a popup/redirect telling you your computer is compromised and you need to call for support. It's ALWAYS a scam.
