restored ipod nano....joined itunes...free musi...

I have a ipod nano....I restored it so nothing is on it.   I signed up for I tunes.....free for 3 mos. then you pay....I added a bunch of songs to the iTunes.....I then hook up my ipod thinking it would sync...it would not.   simply says there was "trouble"....whatever that means....none of the songs sync.   since I restored my ipod and lost everything one it, i'm going a little nuts now.   any help.  recommendations.  solutions?   thank you very much.

Apple Music tracks can’t be put on an iPod nano. You need to either actually buy the songs or get them from a source other than the iTunes Store.
