Siri Remote 4K not pairing with MacBook Pro Ret...

I have a 2017 MacBook Pro using macOS Sierra 10.12.6.

 

I purchased a Siri Remote. It is the new Siri Remote with the slight design adjustment that comes with the new Apple TV 4K (white rim around "menu").

 

I want to use the remote to control keynote on my MacBook Pro. I've downloaded SiriMote and I've also tried BetterTouchTool, neither of which is recognizing the Siri Remote during the pairing process.

 

When pairing, the Siri Remote device within the bluetooth menu will say "Connected." Then, after a few minutes the Siri Remote within the bluetooth menu will say "Not Connected."

 

Has anyone else run into this issue?
