I run v.10.6.8 on my MacBook Pro which I inherited from a friend. It has no Pages software. The only word processing I can do on it is TextEdit. How can i acquire a word processing application that will work with the Pages documents on my iPad?

Open the app store app on the dashboard, Apple sells Pages there for a very reasonable Price. You can use iTunes cards to pay for it, best of all it is comparable with pages on all of your devices so what ever you do on Pages on one device you can link to your other device through your apple account.

jimpickvo has 10.6.8 installed.  Pages requires 10.10.4 or later:

Ciao.

If you can find a dvd of IWorks 09 that would work. Have seen them on Ebay. there  are other word processors apps that may work. Such as bean.  https://gigaom.com/2010/01/19/alternative-word-processors-for-the-mac/ NeoOffice is another.  https://www.neooffice.org/neojava/en/index.php

Ginger, Neo Office now requires OS 10.8 or higher. Same with LibreOffice. OP is at 10.6.8.

The bean link shows for 10.6 and neo shows a classic link for 10.6 to 10.10

In case you never notice, Apple now gives Pages, Keynote and Number away free in the App Store for Mac’s.

In case you never notice, the OP has 10.6.8 which won't run the current (and only available) version of these apps.
