Best Way To Set Up a New Network

Hi there, I’m planning to update to a new iMac and Time Capsule and have some network questions. Currently, I have a TC that I purchased in 2014. I also have an older TC connected that I use to extend my network. I figure the easiest thing to do, is to retire the older TC and set up the new one as the main base station and move the other TC to use as the network extension.

Is there a better way? I’ve been thinking about getting a network extension and connect it to my new TC and retire the old TC. Was looking at the D-Link: DAP-1330 N300 Wi Fi Range Extender. Any recommendations?

I found the link below and that was helpful, but I’m not sure how current the info is and I’m still confused as to the best way to set up everything. I see that for wireless, the maximum rate is 450 Mbps on 802.11n @ 5 GHz, but I don’t need anything that fast. I’m more concerned about the range. The TC I’m looking at is: 802.11ac, but I guess the one I’m using now is not? Tried looking around in airport utility, but could not find any info on exactly which TC I’m using now. Can you connect one type to another?

Thanks for any info!
