Connecting Mac and iMac

Hi,

 

I bought my MacBook pro 13 inch retina display (Fall 2013) and I bought my iMac early 2016....how can I connect both? I tried the following but it doesn't work. Is it even possible, any answers would be great.

 

  1. Connect the Thunderbolt cable to the Thunderbolt ports on each computer.
  2. Make sure both Mac computers are turned on and awake.
  3. Press Command (⌘)-F2 on the keyboard of the external display Mac.
