Logic Pro X: problems with the SETTING button o...
Hi, Im from Italy. I just downloaded the version X of Logic and I have a problem I can not solve: the SETTING button which is located in each channel strip (from which you load the set of plugins - see please the attached JPG) does not work. At the mouse over the menu does not drive. Can anyone help me solve the problem? Furthermore, how can I do to re-download the installer from APP STORE?
Thank you Marco.
Hi
Click and HOLD on the Settings button?
CCT
Did you ever get this resolved Marco?
Which question are you referring to as the OP asked two?
The setting button or how to download the installer?
Sorry,
I was referring to the Settings button at the top of the channel strip being unresponsive to any kind of click/hover/click+hold.
It should work fine as its not a known bug or issue....
If you simply left click or left click and hold it should appear....
Is it the only button that doesn't work in the channel strip?
All other Channel Strip buttons are working as they should and bring up the expected options/menus. It doesn't matter if it's the Setting button at the top of the Channel Strip in the Mixer pane, or a separate Mixer window, or if I try it with the Channel Strip in the Inspector - they are just completely dead buttons. I've also noticed that if I select a Channel Strip and copy its settings with the key command shortcut, and then try to paste that setting onto a different channel strip it doesn't work.
I seem to not be the only person with this issue:

The typical fix for weird issues like this is to delete both LPX's prefs and the CS file...
Delete the user preferences
You can resolve many issues by restoring Logic Pro X back to its original settings. This will not impact your media files. To reset your Logic Pro X user preference settings to their original state, do the following:
- Quit Logic Pro
- In the Finder, choose Go to Folder from the Go menu.
- Type ~/Library/Preferences in the "Go to the folder" field.
- Press the Go button.
- Remove the com.apple.logic10.plist file from the Preferences folder. Note that if you have programmed any custom key commands, this will reset them to the defaults. You may wish to export your custom key command as a preset before performing this step. See the Logic Pro X User Manual for details on how to do this. If you are having trouble with a control surface in Logic Pro X, then you may also wish to delete the com.apple.logic.pro.cs file from the preferences folder.
- If you have upgraded from an earlier version of Logic Pro, you should also remove ~/Library/Preferences/Logic/com.apple.logic.pro.
- Restart the computer.
Note: If you cannot find any of the files mentioned in this tip,you didn't follow the instructions exactly as written
Thanks TAOS,
Okay, I followed those instructions to the letter and deleted com.apple.logic10.plist and com.apple.logic.pro.cs from my preferences folder.
However, when I attempted to follow the instructions of step 6 (I have upgraded from Logic 9.1.8), I found that I do not have a folder called Logic in my ~/Library/Preferences folder, nor is the file com.apple.logic.pro present anywhere else in that Preferences folder. Nevertheless after performing all the other steps except 6 I restarted the computer and found that the LPX Channel Strip Settings buttons are still unresponsive.
Some other notes . . .
If I click to the left of the Setting button with the Channel Strip open in the Inspector I get the expected Library options in the Library pane to the left of the Inspector, those options do not however include a "User" folder of all my previously saved Channel Strip Settings from LP9. I believe it should - no?
I checked to see if my "missing" Logic folder might be in my System/Library/Preferences folder, but it's not there either.
Since I'm looking for that file called com.apple.logic.pro from step 6 I performed a search for a file of that name but there wasn't one. Closest thing was a folder by that name in ~/Library/Caches. Here's an image of those search results:
Also, here's an image of the Logic files in ~/Library/Preferences:
I never realized how dependent my workflow is on those Channel Strip Setting buttons (or the associated Key Command Shortcuts) until now!

Thats ok.. If its not there, its not important... It may have already been removed by a later installation of Logic...
Nevertheless after performing all the other steps except 6 I restarted the computer and found that the LPX Channel Strip Settings buttons are still unresponsive.
I am at a loss then as to why your settings button is unresponsive.... as in the past, during the investigation of the two other cases where this occurred... that I am aware of.. Both were resolved by the removal of the plist and CS files... The fact that it only affects the Setting button is even more bewildering as then that discounts any outside app or setting , conflicting with Logic seeing button presses...
I wonder if any of the other 'regulars' here have come across a different fix or cause for this issue or have any further suggestions?
One last suggestion from me.. would be to discount a specific User Account issue.... though I think it highly unlikely this would fix it but you never know..
Stranger things have happened in the past!
Isolating an issue by using another user account - Apple Support
Okay, I'll give the user account test a shot then. Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions.
Falling all else, is there a way to report this as a legit LPX bug to Apple?

Yes..

You might want to also try posting up your issue in LogicProHelp too.... as some of their forum members are very smart!
I created an Admin Account called Test User and do not have this problem if I open LPX with that User Account. Everything works as it should.
Out of curiosity I copied the .plist from that account and pasted it into my personal account, but still no go with LPX under my account.
Out of further curiosity I'm going to try copying and pasting all my personal channel strip settings into Test User account and see if I can access them when I open LPX through that account.
Ok.. so now we know its a problem (Likely a permissions issue of some kind) with the User account you normally use....
...and not a LPX issue......
Please bear in mind, when you copy files from one account to another.. they may still have the permissions for the original User.. which means the new user cannot access them under their account (or maybe cannot write to them which is more common)
This is why you shouldn't normally just move important files around in OS X unless you know what you are doing.....
Okay. Would you suggest Repair Disk Permissions using the Disk Utility App?
