itunes placing song ratings without my input

Not sure this website is for getting actual answers, since this topic has been addressed in prior years without useful answers (unless you're a computer programmer) but here goes anyway.. the last few days if rate one song (star ratings) ITunes rates every other song on the album the same. It happens if I rate the song on my iphone and later sync to iTunes AND also if I rate the song directly on the itunes interface using my PC laptop computer. Everything is updated versions. Apparently this is by design since the phone rep said I must be pushing the wrong button (untrue). Answers, community?
